"Build relationships! I always say I don’t work as a PR professional, my job is a relationship builder. "

Please provide a brief introduction to yourself & The Tartan Blanket Co.

Hello there! I’m Nicole, Nic for short (and I am short), and I’m the PR and Events Specialist at The Tartan Blanket Co.! We’re a purpose-driven lifestyle brand dedicated to inspiring moments of warmth through natural, sustainable woollen fashion and home accessories. I joined the TBCo. in-house team in January 2021 and am responsible for working with amazing publications to share our products and story, as well as organising all of our exciting events!

What’s your favourite part about working for The Tartan Blanket Co.?

The connections that are made here - from a PR standpoint I love connecting with journalists and influencers that are just as excited about TBCo. as we are and being able to share our story with them. We also have a great team behind us here, who are incredibly supportive towards each other and genuinely passionate about the work that we do.

What’s the most memorable campaign you’ve worked on?

Our SS22 launch was particularly exciting as our design team created a beautiful collection that was perhaps more fashion-forward than anything we’ve done before, which really resonated with press.

Tell us about any exciting plans The Tartan Blanket Co. has coming up later this year!

What aren’t we doing!? It’s been a busy year for us at The Tartan Blanket Co., but perhaps our most exciting project is the opening of our first ever bricks-and-mortar store in Edinburgh. We’re converting our studio into an experiential space for our lovely community to see and buy our products in person, but we also plan on using it as a place where fellow independent businesses can share their own offerings and be a real hub for locals and tourists alike.

We’ve also got some great collaboration collections to keep your eyes peeled for in the coming months - watch this space!

What advice would you give someone starting their career in PR?

Build relationships! I always say I don’t work as a PR professional, my job is a relationship builder. Whether this is with journalists, influencers or other brands, people want to connect with other people. Show your personality in your pitches and find a common interest with whomever you’re reaching out to. Everything takes time, and the more you dedicate yourself to really researching your top media list and building on that, the greater chance of success you have.

The Tartan Blanket Co. is joining us for The Big Christmas Press Show this year, what are you most excited about?

I’m super excited about meeting the journalists and influencers I’ve connected with over the last few years in person! CIJ Group’s Power Pitching gave us the opportunity to connect with so many great contacts who I still keep in touch with regularly, and being able to actually showcase our products in-person is going to strengthen those relationships even more. Besides, you can’t not get excited about spending time in London!?

Tell us something interesting we don’t know about you!

My hidden talent is always having the appropriate gif at the ready, no matter what the conversation is. Extra points if it’s The Office related as well!
