"Daily self-care rituals are a chance to check in with yourself and it’s something to look forward to after a busy day."

Sunday 24th of July is International Self-Care Day and what better way to mark the day than a quick-fire Q&A with the Queen of Self-Care Sundays herself - Aimee Jakes. Aimee is a huge advocate for mindfulness, running a weekly interview series for heat where she asks celebrities and influencers all about their ideal Self-Care Sunday. Have a read below to hear all about Aimee’s own self-care advice, why mindfulness is so important and her favourite products for relaxing and recuperating.

What is self-care to you?

It’s doing all those annoying tasks first and then being able to really relax and enjoy my own company afterwards. There is nothing worse than trying to get my self-care on in a messy room! I like to clean my home, do a brutal leg day at the gym, do a food shop and then change into fresh pyjamas, do a 12 step skincare routine and watch vlogs on YouTube.

Why is self-care so important?

It’s a chance to recharge your batteries for the week ahead. Daily self-care rituals are a chance to check in with yourself and it’s something to look forward to after a busy day. I live for nothing more than getting to ice roll my face during a Love Island recoupling.

What is your #1 self-care tip?

If you hate baths and sheet masks, don’t do it! Whether it’s cleaning, painting, running 8 miles or not getting out of bed all day in full-on Goblin mode - embrace what feels good and restorative for you.

Who is your self-care inspiration?

At the moment I am loving Stazzylicious on TikTok (her self-care routines are unmatched!) and I love @bambidoesbeauty and @skinbylottie on Instagram for the best skincare advice.

What is the best self-care advice you have ever received?

It’s from Grace Beverley and it’s to set clear boundaries for when you work and don’t work. I now won’t work into the evenings and don’t have emails on my phone as I would check them constantly. It’s transformed my rest and I come to work much more likely to feel my best self.

Which celebrity’s Self-Care Sunday routine is your favourite?

Such a hard one, but I adored Made In Chelsea Sophie Habboo’s routine. From visiting an infrared sauna, indulgent skincare routines, ice globes and moisturising to high heaven, before getting into a fresh pair of pyjamas – she is the self-care queen!

What are your 3 must-have Self-Care Sunday products?

- A face ice roller from Amazon
- Neon Wellbeing Pod Diffuser
- CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask

What is your favourite thing about your Self-Care Sunday series?

Getting to nosey at famous people’s routines. I love finding out what people do on their days off as I really believe it gives much more of an insight into who they really are and how they tick. I want to know what products they use, what takeaway they’re ordering and what books they recommend to all their friends - and I always learn something new! Plus, it’s refreshing to see how we’re all very similar deep down.
