Please provide a brief introduction to yourself & Daily Express

I’m Natalie and I’m the Senior Content Writer at Express.co.uk covering lifestyle and specialising in writing about travel and food. I focus on writing about deals, product launches, round ups and reviews. I’ve been at the paper for over a year now and before that, I was a freelance writer for online magazines and newspapers. My background is actually in fashion journalism and I spent a lot of my life writing for fashion magazines and was a beauty editor at one point. It’s definitely been an interesting career but I’m so happy to be where I am now.

Give us the inside scoop, what is your favourite part about working as Senior Content Writer?

I absolutely love that I get the opportunity to write about subjects that I’m passionate about and that there’s a ton of variety in my job. Food has always been my biggest love and I’m always learning something new which keeps it always exciting. I love that I get to go to so many places I never would’ve had the opportunity to and that my gift guides help people make informative decisions about shopping. I’ve also got a great team which definitely helps!

What types of products and price points are you personally looking to feature?

A lot of the products I feature are accessible online from Amazon etc for everyone to get. I focus primarily on online stores and food wise, I’m interested in new launches, meal delivery kits, gin and always seasonal food as that’s a big part of my job. Another important factor is that we look for products that are affiliates for our articles. I focus on deals so always look for cheap and accessible price points because I think it’s really important to factor the cost of living into shopping and it’s something that resonates with me.

What advice would you give a PR pitching to get your attention and secure coverage from you?

Please check out the kind of articles that I’m writing and pitch products that fit it. I constantly am bombarded by people asking me to do restaurant reviews when I focus more on at-home food. Keep things clear, concise and include links to the product. I work on daily deadlines so embargoes aren’t really a preference of mine and prefer people to send me news when things are released.

What is the best press trip you have ever been on?

Wow I’m really lucky that I get to go to places I would’ve never been able to afford to and press trips are definitely the best part of the job. The best trip that sticks out is when I went to Gran Canaria with my partner to review spas - an actual dream holiday.

We see from your Instagram that you love fitness! Tell us, what is your number one tip for someone looking to start their own fitness journey?

Thank you! Find a form of movement that you enjoy and make it a priority by scheduling it in your calendar. I love weightlifting but the best thing that’s helped me over the past few years is consistency not motivation. It’s easy to get overwhelmed when you start so just take it slowly and make sure it’s something you're consistently doing.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!

I’m from Hong Kong and my mother is Malaysian so eating East Asian and South East Asian food is incredibly important to me as it connects me to my culture.
