"My number one tip would be that if you have a passion for journalism, get your voice out there!"

Please provide a brief introduction to yourself & BuzzFeed

I’m Elizabeth, I joined BuzzFeed last year as an Affiliate Writer after I graduated with a Distinction in my MA for International Journalism. I was so excited to be given the opportunity to become a part of the Shopping team; we focus on useful products that we know our readers will enjoy, as well as testing out some of these products ourselves which is always fun!

Give us the inside scoop, what is your favourite part about working as Affiliate Writer?

To work with brands I’ve been shopping with for years is definitely a pinch-me moment! As a team we have frequent brainstorming sessions where we all come together and share our best ideas, it’s really inspiring to be able to work in a team with other creative people that love the job as much as I do. I love the flexibility with the content I’m able to write, and it’s really rewarding seeing readers get excited over products that I’ve recommended too.

What types of products and price points are you personally looking to feature?

I love products that focus on sustainability and utility, with homeware being a favourite niche of mine. A bonus is any products that are trending on TikTok as they’re always really popular with our readers. We focus on affordability as we don’t want to be breaking the bank over a new product either!

What is the best press event you have ever been to?

I’ve been really lucky in the past year, and have been invited to some incredible events, but one stand-out trip for me was going to Billund in Denmark to see the brand-new LEGO campus! We got to see where all the LEGO builders work and the designs they’ve been meticulously working on for years. We were challenged to build some LEGO ourselves, and let’s just say I don’t think they’ll be asking me to work for them any time soon!

Tell us your number one top tip for someone looking to get into journalism!

I don’t think there’s one clear path to becoming a journalist. I took a more traditional route of studying journalism for my MA, but my number one tip would be that if you have a passion for journalism, get your voice out there! Even if that means talking into the void with your blog (we’ve all been there), it’s still experience and will begin to build your portfolio. It can be really easy to feel overwhelmed, but as long as you feel confident with the content you’re writing then there’s nothing stopping you.
